They say that when the Lumière brothers projected their short film "Arrival of a Train in the Station of La Ciotat" in 1896 the audience was so scared seeing a train coming towards them that they jumped out of their seats and disrupted the entire screening. Today we are much more inured to the illusions of cinema, and it is difficult to find ourselves in front of images on a screen which cause such a violent reaction, but the fascination with a moving train and the illusion of depth on a flat screen can be exploited in new ways.
"Round Trip" is an audiovisual performance which transports the spectator through real and distorted landscapes, tunnels, and melodies, manipulating the found footage to bring us somewhere else. The traveler gets lost in the shapes and colors, but at every step of the way they can glimpse elements of the original material, helping keep their feet on the ground throughout this psychedelic journey.
